The part most searches miss

You can be qualified and still be invisible. Senior hiring gets easier when the right people can place you in the right conversation.

Method

The search has three lanes. Most people stay in the weakest one.

Applications are useful, but they rarely create context. A senior search needs a target role, a target team, a point of view, and conversations with people close to the work.

LOW CONTEXT

Apply cold

You enter a crowded process before anyone knows why your background fits this team.

ContextLow
LIMITED CONTEXT

Wait for a recruiter

You may get a conversation, but the recruiter cannot speak for every team inside a company.

HIGH CONTEXT

Build the path in

Start with people who know the work. Learn the team’s problem. Earn a relevant introduction.

The 4 Ps of a winning job search.

Four pillars, one coherent search. Networking runs through all of them.

Networking runs through all four

Position

Who are you, and what are you seeking?

  • Clear P0 goal
  • Unique selling proposition
  • LinkedIn headline
  • Target company list
  • LinkedIn profile and resume
  • Narrative pressure-testing

The networking edgePressure-test your story with people who hold the role you want.

Pipeline

Land a lot of interviews.

  • Mindset: a clear reason to reach out
  • Methods: find teams and hiring managers
  • Messaging: 14 templates and the Them–You–Do formula
  • Management: track conversations and follow-ups
  • Build paths into posted and unposted roles

The networking edgeBuild advocates close to the team, not just referrals into the company.

Perform

Win the interviews.

  • Behavioral preparation
  • Story-bank development
  • Mock interviews
  • A clear “tell me about yourself”
  • Show judgment, scope, and impact at your target level

The networking edgeLearn the team’s priorities so your examples speak to the actual work.

Profit

Land and negotiate the offer.

  • Stack offers
  • Negotiate from scope and impact
  • Negotiate the best offer from the beginning
  • Get insider information

The networking edgeGet insider information on the role before the offer conversation.

Client results

Specific beats impressive.

Feedback from people David has coached. Outcomes vary with the market, the target, and the work put in.

His advice helped me simplify my messaging, increase the quality of my outreach, and approach conversations with more purpose. As a result, my response rates noticeably improved, and I began generating more meaningful conversations with hiring leaders and peers in the industry.

David is great, highly recommend. I landed several interviews in less than a month.

The networking work

A pipeline needs regular conversations.

We set an outreach routine around your targets and capacity. Relevant messages and consistent follow-up matter as much as volume.

Occasional outreach

A low-activity example

Connection requests
40 / month
Assumed acceptance rate
15%
New connections
6 / month
New conversations
6 or fewer / month

A planned routine

A higher-activity example

Targeted connection requests
200 / week
Assumed acceptance rate
75%
New connections
150 / week
New conversations at a 50% reply rate
75 / week

The goal of those conversations: interviews, introductions, and insider information.

Illustrative scenario, not typical results or a required weekly quota. A reply can start a conversation; it is not an interview. Your plan depends on your time, audience, and LinkedIn’s account limits. Outreach is personal, not automated.

Upside vs. fee12.3×

Illustrative scenario only, before tax. This adds an annual raise to hypothetical salary from a shorter search; it is not a forecast of first-year income or coaching results.

“In 2007 I paid an admissions coach $5,000 for the privilege of paying Kellogg $100,000. Everyone who got in had done the same thing. This $6k buys you a $200k+ role. Your competition for Product Director roles isn’t doing it alone. You shouldn’t be either.”
David, on investing in coaching for his own career

David’s original coaching analogy. The current engagement is $6,000; a job or salary outcome is not guaranteed.

About David

He has been the candidate, the hiring manager, and the coach.

David was Director of Product at Discovery and IPG, and Head of Product at LiveRamp. He has also worked in venture capital, founded a company, and advised founders.

As a hiring manager, he grew two teams to five people and interviewed dozens of product managers. He knows what a hiring team says after the candidate leaves the room because he has been the one saying it.

Today, he works one-on-one with experienced product managers and product leaders across the full search.

He is the networking coach in Alex Rechevskiy's Product Career Accelerator and a coach in Aakash Gupta's Land a PM Job program. He has also been invited to teach at Sidebar and Supra.
